The goal of this program is to provide diagnosis and treatment to persons with intellectual disabilities and behavioral or psychiatric disorders. Program components include: responsive treatment by a multidisciplinary clinical team; assessment and stabilization of acute psychiatric conditions; medication consultation and monitoring; psychological and neuropsychological testing; individualized behavioral treatment; individual, group and family therapies; and regular consultation/coordination with outpatient service providers.
Intellectual disability services for adults are available at Arbour-Fuller Hospital. Arbour-Fuller’s unit is a collaborative program with South Shore Mental Health and the Department of Developmental Services.
For referrals to the Intellectual Disabilities Unit, please contact our Intake Department.
All referrers will be requested to complete a Patient Referral Form. The completed form must be faxed to the Intellectual Disabilities team at 508-838-2228 – this will be reviewed within 24 hours of receipt (business days only). The referral source will be notified if the patient will be admitted or placed on a waiting list. Projected bed availability will be identified at that time.
