Developmental Disabilities

Arbour-Fuller Hospital offers inpatient services for developmentally disabled adults.  Arbour-Fuller’s unit is a collaborative program with South Shore Mental Health and the Department of Mental Retardation.  Most Arbour Counseling Services locations have outpatient clinicians who have expertise treating special needs patients.

The goal of the program is to provide diagnosis and treatment to persons with mental retardation and behavioral or psychiatric disorders.  Program components include:  prompt admissions process; responsive treatment by a multidisciplinary clinical team; assessment and stabilization of acute psychiatric conditions; medication consultation and monitoring; psychological and neuropsychological testing; individualized behavioral treatment; substance abuse treatment; individual, group and family therapies; and regular consultation/coordination with outpatient service providers.

All referrers should complete a Patient Referral Form.  The completed Form must be faxed to the Developmental Disabilities team at 508-838-2228 – this will be reviewed within 24 hours of receipt (includes business days only). The referral source will be notified if the patient will be admitted or placed on a waiting list.  Projected bed availability will be identified at that time.  Verification of insurance may include the request for a 1:1, and the Specialing Form may also need to be completed by the referral source.

For assistance or admission options twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, please call the ACCES Center at (800) 22-ACCES (222-2237).  Your call will be answered by an intake coordinator who will ask you a few questions in order to determine what is most appropriate for your circumstances.
