Pembroke Hospital began offering inpatient and outpatient Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) services to patients 18 and over in on Nov. 12.

The hospital has a newly renovated ECT suite which includes a waiting room, consult room, preparation room, procedure room and recovery room. It also has a new team of ECT staff. Paula Frye, ECT Coordinator will be in charge of patient admissions and the nursing functions of the new department. Other team members include Katie VanNest, ECT Recovery Nurse, who will oversee patient recovery after their treatment and Dr. Rizwan Mufti, the medical director of the new ECT unit.

The ECT program will be open for treatment Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 7 a.m.- noon.

External referrals for ECT at Pembroke Hospital are to be made through the Arbour Health System Intake Department. Review of all cases presented will be completed by the ECT MD (and consulting MDs as appropriate) within 24 business hours of the referral and prior to patient acceptance.
