LOWELL, MASS. – Answering a regional need for psychiatric inpatient care, Lowell Treatment Center officially opened its 15-bed adult acute psychiatric unit at Solomon Mental Health Center Monday, July 11, 2011. The unit began ramping up admissions throughout the month of July and is now fully open to accept patients.
Highlights of the 5,500-square-foot adult facility include an open nurse’s station, sensory room and an on-unit dining room.
This unit houses the only adult inpatient beds in the city of Lowell. “Every day there is a strong demand for adult inpatient beds in the system, especially in the Lowell area,” said Gregory Brownstein, CEO at Westwood Lodge/Lowell Treatment Center. “This project has had longstanding support of the region’s Emergency Departments, Emergency Service Programs, area legislators, NAMI Lowell and behavioral health clinicians.”
